Foreign Affairs – What Went Wrong in Iraq – Larry Diamond

Larry Diamond nails it. He lays out all of the mistakes, cowardice, bad luck, and systemic flaws that have lead us to where we are today in Iraq. And he does so honestly, fairly, and relentlessly. This is the best analysis I’ve yet seen on the invasion, bar none.

Long time, no post

Trust me, all is well. I’m waiting until I feel like I’m in the rhythm to start blogging again.

My first week of classes went quite well. I’m settling into the apartment and figuring out this wacky city. One thing I didn’t expect was the plethora of vegetarian restaurants: Atlanta has a couple of swanky upscale vegetarian / vegan places, and there’s a VEGAN SOUTHERN FOOD diner right around the corner from our apartment.

I’ve back into swimming three times a week. I get up at 6:30 on TuThSa, take the MARTA to school, and dive in. GT has an incredible athletic facility, including the ‘96 olympic pool. Something like 30-odd lanes for lap swimming.

My camera is dead. A particularly hard bump put a particularly large dent in it, unfortunately. I’m scrounging around looking for a Pentax Optio S, but apparently the official word has gone out from the manufacturer to No Longer Sell It. So I’m relegated to ebay and amazon shops. Man, that’s really annoying.

Alison will be back from Taiwan soon, which is wonderful. She has posted photos, but for my own purposes I have excerpted the following for this entry:

Alison tempts the monkeys

Mean Monkey, who appears to be waving his testicles at my girlfriend.
