**Warning: if you use Mapquest, Google Maps, Yahoo, etc to get directions, beware of the following: The final directions to places in Hope will often take you on Morey Hill Road. Morey Hill Road is not driveable all the way through (except possibly with a 4×4). Do not follow these directions; please refer instead to our directions here. Other than this, the online directions to the Midcoast area seem to be dependable. (See “Getting Around” for more warnings.)

  • Exit the airport via Brown Ave / NH-3A.

  • from Boston (about 190 miles, 4 hours)

Get on Route 93 North. Take exit 37A to 95 North/128. Continue with the directions below from 95N.

    from Boston: Logan Airport

  • Follow signs to airport exit for Route 1A North. After a few miles, go 2/3 of the way around a traffic circle to Route 60 W. Pass through a 2nd circle, and at the 3rd circle, go 1/4 of the way around to Route 1 North. After about 8 miles, exit onto 95 North.
  • Take 95 North for about 85 miles through New Hampshire and Southern Maine.
  • Take exit 44 at South Portland, and get on 295 North. You will then pass Portland Airport …
  • from Portland Airport (about 90 miles, 2 hours)

  • Follow signs at airport exit for 295 North. Pass through Portland and continue north about 45 miles.
  • Take exit 51 to Route 126/Route 9 towards Gardiner. Go about 3 miles and turn right after crossing the bridge over the river.
  • Very soon, make a left onto Route 226 and go north-east for 5 miles.
  • Turn right on Route 17 East. Follow this for 25 miles.
  • To Camden (Cedarcrest Hotel)

  • Take Route 17 another 5 miles past Route 235 to Route 90, make a left.
  • Take Route 90 about 2 ½ miles and then turn left on Route 1.
  • Go north on Route 1 about 1 mile into Camden. Not long after you pass a shopping center with a Graves Supermarket on your left, turn left into the Cedarcrest Hotel Parking lot.
  • Or continue straight down Route 1 into downtown Camden.
  • To Hope (Jones Farm, Cabins)

  • Turn left on Route 235 in the town of Union. After a few miles, you will pass the junction with Alford Lake Road on your right. The road then starts up the side of Hatchet Mountain, and curves to the right. You will come to the top of the rise and take a sharp curve to the left at the intersection with Payson’s Path. Right after this is a dip, then pull off to your right around the mailbox that reads “199.”
  • Driving Directions from the North/West:

from Bangor Airport (about 60 miles, 1 3/4 hours)

  • Exit the airport following signs for Odlin Rd/ I-395/General Aviation Terminal.
  • Turn left onto I-395 E, go only one exit.

  • Pass through the downtown on Route 1 to get to the Cedar Crest Motel. (On your right.)
  • To Hope (Jones Farm, Cabins)

  • From Route 1 S in Belfast, turn right on Route 52/Lincolnville Road. Go about 10 miles until Lincolnville Center.
  • Turn left onto 173. Go only a block.
  • Immediately turn right onto Route 235 at Petunia Pump. Take 235 about 3 miles; bear right at the intersection with 105 towards Hope.
  • At Hope Corner, turn left on 235 to go up Hatchet Mountain. At the top of the very long hill, the Hatchet Mountain Farms barn and house will be to the right.
  • from Montreal (about ?? miles, 8 hours)

This route is a little complicated, mainly once you get to Maine, but it is much more direct. It is also missing some route numbers, but an up-to-date map should have those.

  • From Montreal, take the 10 (Autoroute des Cantons de l’Est) east to where it dead-ends at the 55.
  • Take the 55 north to Sherbrooke. Go around that city and take the 4-lane divided shunt that heads east a couple of km. towards Lenoxville. Now you are back on 2-lane roads.
  • When the autoroute ends, southeast on 147 to Lenoxville, then east on 108 to Cookshire (look for the 1st class Xmas tree farm on the left).
  • Then east to West Ditton, La Patrie, Notre Dame des Bois and Woburn and the border. I don’t have that route number.
  • Once in Maine, follow 27 to Kingfield,
  • 16 to North Anson,
  • 201A and 8 to through Anson & Madison to Norridgewock,
  • 139 to Fairfield Center,
  • then 104 right through downtown Waterville.
  • Cross the Kennebec on 201/100 and maybe more to Winslow. East of the Kennebec, take 201/100 south a short distance across the Sebasticook and turn left onto 137
  • (which picks up 202) to 3 in South China. East on 3 to a right on 220 into Liberty village,
  • then straight on 173 (not right on 220) to Searsmont. Watch carefully for route signs around Liberty.
  • In Searsmont, right on 131 to North Appleton, then left on 105 to Hope Corner.
  • At Hope Corner, right on 235 (Hatchet Mountain Road) 1 mi. to top of hill at #199. Turn right up hill at driveway. Barn is on right of 235. Mailbox on left says Jones.
  • The section between Coburn Gore and North Anson, indeed, all the way to Norridgewock, is really scenic. You have to be careful and watch the signs in the Waterville-Winslow area and in Liberty.
